River’s fate exposes the biggest occult secret known to mankind, and through decades of song lyrics, album art, photo shoots, movies and interviews, his story is finally brought to light by the people who loved him the most, and by River himself.
The events leading up to River’s death form an intriguing timeline of strange and impossible coincidences. Beginning with his movie, Stand By Me, and ending with his unfinished film, Dark Blood, River’s life begins to resemble a neatly-polished Hollywood script.
While Stand by Me was the devil’s DNA for River, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade helped bring that prophecy to light. Like Ray Brower picking blueberries before getting hit by a train, Indiana Jones was another breadcrumb that led River to his death.
In March of 1991, R.E.M. released their 7th studio album titled, Out of Time, which included their most notable song Losing My Religion. Although never released as a single, the 7th track off that album, Belong, is the starting point for a very complicated and painful story.
The beginning scene for the video is a recreation of a scene from the film, The Sacrifice, a 1986 drama written by Andrei Tarkovsky. The film centers on a middle-aged intellectual who attempts to bargain with God to stop an impending nuclear holocaust.
It is a system that demands giving up the mind, body and soul for fame and fortune. By all accounts, River had planned on walking away, but the seed planted in his brain prevented him from doing so. Eventually, he finally gave in, driven to meet his fate.
Released on October 21, 1993, ten days before River’s death, Find the River was the sixth and final single off Automatic for the People. The lyrics, once again, tell the story of River’s impending fate. As the river falls into the ocean, the water cycle completes its course.
According to the autopsy report, River ingested 8x’s the lethal amount of cocaine and 4x’s the lethal amount of heroin – an absurd amount of drugs. Given everything presented here, are we really to believe that River threw caution to the wind that night and went on a wild drug binge?
Written and sung by River himself, the lyrics for Soul Removal provide a chilling glimpse into his prior knowledge of how he would ultimately die. Although no official version of the lyrics exists, the version posted below paints a close enough picture.
Like the blurry image of the bear on the album cover, their images are blurred from the raindrops symbolizing the concept of seeing through a glass, darkly. Upon reflection, everything leading up to River’s death makes perfect sense, but at the time, well, who really knew?
